... Brits have holiday lovers' tiffs Brits have holiday lovers' tiffs

23 June 2008

As the holiday season draws in, many UK couples will spend their time abroad squabbling rather than staring lovingly into each other's eyes, according to a new survey.

Research from travel website trivago.co.uk reveals that 60 per cent of British couples spend their holidays fighting with each other.

Holidays can have a number of trigger points which can cause arguments, starting from deciding where in the world you should go.

And once you get to your destination, how do you decide on which holiday activities to take part in? Some might prefer to lounge on the beach reading a book, while their other more adventurous half might want to take part in water sports.

The website's survey found that jealousy was a big cause of lovers' tiffs while away, with many people angry that their partner is flirting outrageously with another traveller.

Some 16 per cent of respondents said they fight about everyday things like food or the weather while on holiday, making for a not-so-romantic break.

It seems that British couples are particular prone to holiday arguments, especially when compared to loved-up Swedes – 62 per cent of whom never have holiday conflicts with their other half.
