... Brits more romantic than Americans Brits more romantic than Americans

17 February 2008

New research shows that people in the UK are more likely to have purchased a Valentine's Day gift online than their American counterparts.

PayPal commissioned research, conducted by Ipsos, revealed that 20 per cent of Britons planned to buy online.

This compares to just nine per cent of Americans, with 49 per cent of people in the US preferring to physically go to a shop.

In addition, it seems that British Valentine gift buyers are more generous than those in the US.

The survey revealed that the average Briton will have spent £70 ($136) on a gift, compared to just $92 for the average American.

When it comes to what we want to receive on Valentine's Day American and Britons are very similar however.

People of both nationalities said that a surprise would top their list, followed by a romantic weekend away and a romantic dinner. ADNFCR-1043-ID-18470293-ADNFCR
