The couple, who first came into view together in 2010 on BBC quiz show The Bubble, made public their engagement with a notice in The Times. Coren, quiz show host for Only Connect on BBC4, has thanked her fans on Twitter today.

Coren, the daughter of journalist Alan Coren, is a well-known poker player and often writes and broadcasts about the game. She has written several books including Once More With Feeling which is about her attempt to make a pornographic film.  

Mitchell, who found fame as bumbling Mark Corrigan in Channel 4's Peep Show, is regular on panel shows including QI, Mock the Week and Have I Got News for You.He tweeted, “Having received so many lovely messages today, I'm finally coming round to the idea of the internet. Thank you all. I'm incredibly happy."
