... Electronic end to relationships Electronic end to relationships

14 December 2007

Improvements in technology are affording daters innovative new ways to ditch their partners, it has been revealed.

Research conducted by moneysupermarket.com suggests that one in seven (15 per cent) Brits have been dumped by text or telephone.

However, it transpires that even this is not the most cowardly option available to people wishing to end a relationship - they could also consider moving house (as done by two per cent) or ignoring all communication attempts from a partner (four per cent).

Surprisingly, though, 25 per cent of 18 to 24-year-olds said they were considering sending a letter when they next decide to give a boyfriend or girlfriend the boot.

"We are starting to see a shift in the way Brits end relationships. Most of us send emails and texts everyday, so it comes as no surprise they are now being used to ditch someone - however distasteful this is," commented Rob Barnes, head of mobiles and broadband at moneysupermarket.com.

"Who knows what will be next? Will people consider leaving the country or perhaps sending a USB stick with a message on?" ADNFCR-1016-ID-18395801-ADNFCR
