... German couples abandoning wedding rings German couples abandoning wedding rings

13 December 2007

Many couples in Germany have given up exchanging wedding rings because the country has such a high divorce rate they assume their relationship won't last.

More than half of marriages in Germany end in divorce, with most waiting until at least 30 to take the plunge and enter married life.

A survey by the Allensbach Polling Institute found that 74 per cent of German women wear their wedding ring, compared to 60 per cent of men.

And in the former Communist parts of the country 60 per cent of people have given up on wedding rings entirely.

Couples entering a second of third marriage are also less likely to want a wedding ring.

Studies have also shown that men in Germany find it easier to lie than women, and many justify their lying by describing it as 'bending the truth' or 'forgetting' some details.

Women, however, find it much more difficult to lie, with 70 per cent saying they feel really guilty just for telling a white lie.ADNFCR-1043-ID-18393661-ADNFCR
