... Holiday flings 'could lead to wedding bells' Holiday flings 'could lead to wedding bells'

2 September 2008

People might be cynical of holiday romances, but new research reveals that many lead to long-term love.

A study by moneysupermarket.com found that one in ten Britons who have found love abroad have ended up getting hitched to their holiday love.

Successful holiday romances seem to be even more popular among those Britons aged 60 and over, with more than one in five of them marrying a person they met while on holiday.

It seems that when people are away, they let their inhibitions go and take the plunge by entering into a whirlwind romance while abroad.

One in three respondents to the survey said they had had a holiday romance, with the majority of these having taken place in Europe.

Paris – quite rightly named the city of love – was found to have the most successful holiday flings.

Next in line for holiday romances were Majorca, Barcelona, Tenerife and Rome, the study found.

Peter Gerrard of moneysupermarket.com said: "For all those looking for fun and love in the sun, the chances of a holiday romance look pretty good.

"It seems the over-60s are hopeless romantics and it's great to know that you are never too old to find love."
