... Londoners have no love for Valentine's Day Londoners have no love for Valentine's Day

8 February 2008

A new survey has revealed that most single Londoners would prefer a night with their mates to a romantic date on Valentine's Day.

Over half of the capital's single females don't care about the special date and would rather have a ladies' night, according to the survey by CitySocialising website.

Among men, the figure was even higher, with 62 per cent claiming Valentine's Day means nothing to them.

Commercialism was the top turn-off, cited by 33 per cent, while 24 per cent were sickened by smug couples.

The pressure to be with a partner and the cheesiness of the occasion were highlighted as reasons to hate Valentine's by 20 and 19 per cent of respondents respectively.

Sanchita Saha, founder of CitySocialising commented: "Men and women's attitudes to love and relationships are becoming more and more similar - girls are more independent now than ever before and are just as happy to spend time socialising with friends than searching desperately for Mr Right."

Nearly twice as many London ladies as men admitted to sending an anonymous Valentine's Card in the last three years.
