... Love letter falling out of favour Love letter falling out of favour

22 November 2007

Lovers are failing to communicate by the most old-fashioned means in the book.

Love letters are dying out, according to a new survey, which found that fewer than one in five people has received a love letter in the last year.

And only 28 per cent of the British population has received a love letter in the last five years.

It seems instead that people are indulging in online dating and emails to keep in touch with the loves in their lives, rather than sending love letters.

This has bred a next generation of youngsters who are unversed in the ways of the love letter.

The poll by GfK NOP found that more than a third of 16 to 34-year-olds had never written a letter professing their love for another.

And singletons were found to be seven per cent more likely to receive a love letter than married couples, of whom 17 per cent have been treated to the written word by their spouse.ADNFCR-1043-ID-18366415-ADNFCR
