... Prenups take on 21st century requirements Prenups take on 21st century requirements

10 December 2007

As more and more couples take out prenuptial agreements, in part prompted by high-profile divorces in which couples battle over how much each partner deserves, a new element of such documents has come into play.

The E-Nup relates solely to gadgets owned by a couple, enabling them to divide their technological assets between them should they split up.

The idea was the brainchild of Lloyd & Platt Solicitors and has been brought out at Christmas since this is a time when many people come into possession of more gadgets, but also when more couples decide to break up.

Currently UK homes house £11 billion worth of gadgets, from games consoles to kitchen appliances to computers, many of which are purchased as a couple, prompting difficulties if it comes to deciding who gets what..

Vanessa Lloyd Platt, a divorce lawyer who came up with the E-Nup concept, said: "Together with the house and the car, gadgets are the new battleground.

"We handle 500 divorces each year and in my 29 years as a divorce lawyer, Christmas is the most popular time for separations."ADNFCR-1043-ID-18388319-ADNFCR
