... The Beatles help people rekindle the romance The Beatles help people rekindle the romance

8 September 2008

She Loves You, the 1963 Beatles hit, is the song by the Fab Four which is the most powerful trigger of memory, it has been revealed.

And, judging by the recollections listed online at www.magicalmemorytour.com, people are most likely to recall a romantic liaison.

A significant number of the memories recorded on the site are of people dancing or listening to the song with a girlfriend or boyfriend.

According to Doctor Catriona Morrison, one of the two people behind the survey conducted to assess the links between memory and music, the findings are evidence of the power of music in shaping and stimulating memories.

"We argue that music is more than auditory cheesecake. It's a means by which people can account for themselves both as an individual and as part of society," she told the Telegraph.

Other Beatles songs which are adept at helping people re-form links with the past include I Saw Her Standing There, Imagine (although this was in actual fact released by John Lennon after the Beatles' split) and In My Life.
