... The rise of the groomzilla The rise of the groomzilla

15 September 2008

Getting excited about an upcoming may be deemed a bride's prerogative, but new research reveals that the grooms also want to get in on the action.

An increasing number of men about to tie the knot are suffering from wedding outfit angst, stressing over the wedding reception colour scheme or going on diets to get into their morning suit.

Dubbed 'groomzillas', these men are getting stuck into wedding preparations and aiming to outshine their brides on the big day.

In 2002, around one in 50 men joined wedding forums, but now this number is up to one in ten, according to a survey by hitched.co.uk.

Mark Niemierko, who provides a service for grooms-to-be, told the Daily Express: "Grooms like the attention as well as brides and they are increasingly particular about every element and about impressing their friends."

Meanwhile, James Lord of Love & Lord, a wedding planning company, said men are finding it increasingly hard to take a "back seat" when it comes to pre-wedding preparation.
