... What the psychologists don't understand What the psychologists don't understand

14 November 2007

We think that relationship and dating experts have the ability to explain every human emotion and can give all couples a solution the issues they face.

But the Metro spoke to some from the profession to find out what vexes them about couples.

Susan Quilliam, a relationship psychologist, says that the thing that bugs her is the number of women who are prepared to take back someone who has cheated on them.

She pointed to the example of a woman who took her partner back after her slept with her mother.

Esther Perel, a marriage therapist, said that communication between couples about what works fro them is a big issue.

She claims that many couples are put off if their advances are rejected, and while people know what they do not want, many fail to communicate what they are seeking.

And Dr Petra Boynton, a relationships psychologist, wonders why men feel pressure to want a lot of sex. She claims that this pressure can often put men off and detract from the passion when they are in the mood.

She said that couples should feel more empowered to talk to each other about what they want from their love life. ADNFCR-1043-ID-18356053-ADNFCR
