... Women with more testosterone fancy macho men Women with more testosterone fancy macho men

1 October 2008

Women with high testosterone levels are more attracted to macho men, according to new research.

A study carried out at the University of Aberdeen also revealed that men really do favour more feminine women.

Masculine men such as Gladiator Russell Crowe and James Bond actor Daniel Craig were classed more attractive to women with higher levels of testosterone.

The men were more attracted to beauties such as Closer's Natalie Portman and Evangeline Lilly from Lost.

The study was conducted at the university's Face Research Laboratory where men and women were asked to pick the faces they were most attracted to.

Participants also had to give swab samples to determine how much testosterone they had.

Lecturer Dr Ben Jones said: "When men's testosterone levels were high, they were more attracted to feminine women. When women's testosterone levels were high, they were more attracted to masculine men.

"Since masculine men and feminine women are thought to produce the healthiest children and sex drive is higher when testosterone levels are also high, these findings suggest that men and women in hormonal states where their interest in sex is highest, show stronger attraction to high quality - or healthy - mates."
