Cruise ships 'great for singletons'
25 June 2008
Cruise ships are the perfect place to find love, according to a survey of travellers.
|
Some 52 per cent of the 1,800 respondents to a Cruise Critic survey said cruise ships were a great location for romance.
For many, cruise ships are also a great place to celebrate already-existing relationships such as anniversaries.
Around 91 per cent of respondents said that if they were to go on a cruise ship, they would want to spend time with "someone special".
Cruise ships have long been thought of as romantic places, with the idea epitomised in classic film An Affair to Remember with Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr.
Carolyn Spencer Brown, who met her husband on a cruise ship and is now editor-in-chief of Cruise Critic, explained: "Cruising - with its cozy cabins, private balconies, intimate restaurants for dining a deux, plus the unimaginable romance of being out at sea, away from all semblance of normal daily routines - is one of the most romantic ways to travel.
"Furthermore, cruise lines offer an array of romantic options including his and her spa treatments, private dining options and wedding packages."
She added that while cruise ships are not yet rivalling online dating websites in the search for love, they are certainly "improving in popularity."
