French first lady speaks of undying love
15 February 2008
The wife of French president Nicolas Sarkozy has pledged to stay by her husband's side "until death".
|
Carla Sarkozy has finally broken her silence after marrying the president earlier this month.
In an interview with L’Express magazine, the former model and singer revealed that she has absolutely no intention of becoming Mr Sarkozy's third ex-wife.
"I am of Italian culture and I would not like to divorce. I am therefore first lady until the end of my husband's term of office and his wife until death. I know that life can reserve surprises but that is my wish," she revealed.
"When I am near him, the anxiety I have had since being a child disappears. People tell me it all happened too quickly. It's not true. Between Nicolas and me, it wasn't fast, it was instantaneous... Lovers have their own rhythm. Ours is up-tempo," added Carla.
She went on to dismiss some voters' concerns that Mr Sarkozy is too preoccupied with his new wife than running the country.
"People consider, rightly, that a president's work must be 24 hours a day. I can confirm that that's the way it is. However, he needs a little bit of a normal life like the rest of us," she continued.
