Who should pay on a first date?

More than half of people think that men should pay on a first date and less than one per cent believe that women should pay the entire bill on a first date.
And 46 per cent think that going Dutch and splitting the bill is the most favourable way of settling up on the first time a couple go out together

Midlands men are most likely to put their hand in their pockets and pay the bill, while those from the north-east are happier splitting the cost, the survey by Cater Allen revealed.
And finances don't stop being an issue after the first few dates, as money is a common cause of arguments.
Some 76 per cent think couples should have a joint bank account, with 32 per cent saying couples should be together a year before sharing their finances in this way.
Sally Ann Watts, head of marketing at Cater Allen, said: "With over 44 per cent of couples arguing over the issue of finance; communication and setting simple ground rules and boundaries early on can help avoid pitfalls later in a relationship."
