Now if life has 7 ages, ouch!, that must mean I have reached the "fair round belly" age. But in my case at least I have a good excuse. Cycling. I know, in theory its supposed to make you healthier but a couple of months ago I fell off and fractured my collarbone - and limited exercise until very recently.

Continuing the dramatic theme the advice is to show not tell. In writing the best I can do is describe some of my personal history. So going back a bit I can start with a 4 month overland trip to India I undertook the year after I finished University (Glasgow: Psychology B.Sc.), travelling across Europe, Turkey (hitchhiking in Bandit country, the truck stopping, the driver's mate emerging from the cab and loading a shotgun), Iran (helicopter gunships overhead, tanks in the main square, parts of the British Embassy burnt down - the Shah about to be overthrown) Afghanistan (the locals discussing how the Russians were coming), Pakistan (through the Khyber pass to eat chicken curry in a small restaurant in Peshawar while watching Star Trek on TV in Urdu) and India (having my own personal Guru - who fired me as his disciple, hunting Tigers, from the back of an elephant, with my camera of course, and the Taj Mahal by moonlight). A reasonably eventful trip.

Along the way I have commuted to LA (studying there while working in IT in London), written a book (almost finished) and also a play (unpublished). So - just in passing you understand - anyone with publishing connections you might want to let me know about? In fact I ended up living in LA for a number of years, in Santa Monica, while studying for a Masters degree in Spiritual Psychology. Yes, I know, spiritual! - only in California huh. I didn't leave LA believing in angels but it was most definitely a life changing experience.

Other memories? Scuba diving with a giant turtle in the Caribbean sea. Having a girlfriend in LA who had been invited by Tom Cruise to go sky diving. Finding myself in a small unwelcoming Mexican village in a failed attempt to visit the pre Aztec pyramids then being informed that I had missed the last bus back to Mexico city and the safety of my 4 star hotel. Flying over downtown LA in a 4 seater plane and being given the controls. Salsa dancing in a bar overlooking Santa Monica beach. And to bring us back to London and the dramatic theme - acting in some plays in Ealing at the Questors theatre.
