Travelling together
I am happy and fulfilled so a good relationship would be the icing on the cake, not the cake itself. I plan to spend the time left taking all those opportunities that life offers - there is so much still to do, whether eating at supper clubs, exploring Secret Cinema offerings, finally achieving my number one bucket list trip to see the wildlife in Africa or engaging in whatever new venture human creativity offers to see what it's like. I do not plan to go gently into the good night and I want someone who isn't planning to either.
I would ideally like someone who is honest about themselves and self reflective, as I am, and can laugh at me and themselves in good spirit. Who has achieved some wisdom about themselves and life but knows it's an on-going work in progress. Who says yes to the new but also sometimes well let's think this through first before we rush in, and knows when to tell the difference. And doesn't mind commas before ands despite a good education.
The past: a smattering of my life so far would include being a current affairs reporter in Hong Kong, a divorce lawyer in London, hitchhiking around New Zealand, campaigning on education, volunteering for a major charity and running my own business for 10 years until both Brexit and the pandemic saw it off in March. And also having a 20-year relationship with the father of my three just-turned adult children.
I found an interesting contradiction in lockdown. The huge pleasure I get from exploring the world and my thirst for the new was balanced by a quiet calm at home and a surprising lack of frustration when confined to it. And this despite my need for challenge - the latter being one reason I have had several versions of my working life and am currently thinking about what next I can do to fund my plans.
It was the little things I missed during lockdown - sushi from Itsu, a cappuchino at my local cafe, the experience of seeing a film in a cinema with other people. And also there was the longing for the day when I can resume exploring the world - Namibia and Costa Rica are top of my list. There is so much still to see, so much to do, and finding someone to do at least some of it with in a loving relationship is something I would cherish.

Occupation:
Currently small business owner but I've had more than one career. I've an idea for another small business so researching it at the moment.
Education:
Professional qualifications
Heritage:
British Londoner
Religion:
After a lifetime of pondering and wanting there to be some spirituality to life I reluctantly came to the conclusion I am a confirmed atheist.
Politics:
I was an accidental member of Militant Tendency when I was young, but these days I'm much more centre left than that. Or am I now middle of the road? Hard to tell anymore, I don't really keep up.
Appearance:
As you see in the main recent photo taken by my friend last year. The other one was taken at a professional shoot for my children which was meant to be a free bit of fun but of course wasn't but I enjoyed pretending to be a model for a few minutes.
Languages Spoken:
A smattering of German and I can order a taxi and say thank you in Cantonese, though that's not much after two years in Hong Kong.
Musical Instruments played:
Despite my mother's best intentions and far too many years of piano lessons as a child I have no musical ability whatsoever.
Music Enjoyed:
I love Jon Bellion, and Sufjan Steven and Lil Nas X. My daughters introduced me to 21 Pilots of whom I was a great fan, and my son to Muse (although that mood has passed). I saw Genesis five times but that was before Peter Gabriel left and I haven't listened to those early records in years but am keeping them for my kids who aren't in the slightest bit interested. And neither am I really.
Sports and exercise:
I am not particularly interested in sport but I have enjoyed some of them over the course of a lifetime. I went trekking in the Himalayas, which was lifechanging, and I used to ride. At the moment I really want to learn how to sail. I would love the Beautiful Game if only it was always played beautifully. I'll watch cheerleading if my daughter is competing, does that count?
Interests and activities:
Improv is my main passion. There's no box to tick for cinema, but I love seeing films. I regularly do courses on various things to engage my mind, eg anthropology and psychology, and I volunteer at vaccination centres currently. I would tick cooking but I only like baking. Friends, Meditation, Reading, Travel, Voluntary Work, Yoga, Eating Out, Friends, Travel, Voluntary Work, Yoga,
Animals and Pets:
One cat
Newspapers and magazines:
Guardian, and The Week as it has a round up of all the week's news in bite sized chunks. I spend far too much time during the working day getting distracted on the Guardian website.
Books:
I'm reading a lot of science fiction at the moment which is an abiding love, and I've just discovered China Mieville. I usually have one or two books on the go, a mixture of fiction and non-fiction.
Favourite Films:
Casablanca, The Godfather, Some Like It Hot, 2001, I've lots to say about all these films on the list, why I would and wouldn't watch many of them again. But there should perhaps also be a section for TV these days, in which case it would be The Wire and the Larry Sanders Show. I May Destroy You was one of the best I have seen recently and I love Friday Night Dinner.
Enjoyable evening out:
Eating out at a good restaurant, seeing a good film, doing something new and different in London, of which there is an endless supply.
Favourite Dishes:
I love food - Indian, Thai, modern British, sushi (which I eat every day when I can), Italian. I haven't ticked Lasagne as that's one of the few dishes I can make well.
Ideal Holiday:
Number one on my bucket list is to see the wildlife in Africa. But I also want to see Yosemite in the States, visit Namibia and Brazil, go back to Australia...I've been backpacking in the Himalayas, snorkling in Thailand and whitewater rafting in New Zealand but there's so much more to see and only one lifetime to do it all. And I do like lying on beautiful beaches once a year for a complete rest.
In another life:
Counsellor Troi. Yes I know Star Trek's not real!
Personality:
Adventurous, Aware, Caring, Considerate, Different, Friendly, Generous, Independent, Positive, Proactive, Reliable, Sensitive, Serious, Shy, Thoughtful, Tolerant
